In the Kastelholm area there are a lot of lovely places to visit:
The main attraction in Kastelholm is of course the Kastelholm castle. A well-preserved castle ruin with many exiting stories to tell. The castle has over time been through both sieges, fires as well as royal visits. Some kings have come here to hunt, while others have been imprisoned here.
Next to the castle is the Jan Karlsgården open-air museum illustrating the building traditions of Åland. At midsummer a traditional midsummer party is arranged here including the raising of the traditional midsummer pole. Here is also located the prison museum Vita Björn, a former crown museum that presents the long history of prison service.
If you are visiting Åland with boat we recommend visiting the Kastelholm guest harbour. The beautiful harbour is located only a few minutes walk from the castle and Smakbyn. The Kastelholm guesthouse offers accommodation and is only 700 m from Smakbyn.
